Hair Loss
Alongside extensive training in hair disorders as part of his specialist training, Dr Salam spent 1 year as part of his subspecialisation fellowship working in the tertiary hair service at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology. A large part of his current practice involves treating patients with a range of hair loss disorders. He offers the full spectrum of investigations & treatments including hair loss genetic testing, personalised compounded hair tonics, tablet therapies, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment.​
He has published and presented internationally on hair disease. Dr Salam has secured research funding from Alopecia UK, and has attended patient support group events as an expert.
This gentleman in his 20’s developed rapidly progressive alopecia areata: an autoimmune condition that attacks the hair follicles. He was treated with cream/lotion, injection and tablet therapies under Dr Salam and successfully achieved full hair regrowth by 4 months.

Acne
Dr Salam developed a dedicated Acne service protocol for his Trust, authored the south-east London prescribing guidelines on Spironolactone (an acne treatment), has developed patient information videos on acne, and is responsible for accrediting doctors for prescribing Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) within his Community Dermatology service.
This gentleman in his 20’s had suffered with acne since his teenage years which was progressively worsening and beginning to leave scarring. After discussing a number of treatment approaches with Dr Salam, he opted for isotretinoin therapy. He noted a significant improvement by 3 months with no new spots, and the below result by 9 months. (Note: he had also started treatment for hair loss under Dr Salam).

Eczema
Dr Salam is currently part of the Tertiary Severe Eczema Service at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology and manages the full spectrum of the disease. He has developed key guidelines at his Trust, and lectures nationally and internationally on the topic. He prescribes all systemic, biologic and JAK inhibitor therapies for eczema.
This gentleman in his early 50’s had suffered with seborrhoeic dermatitis (seborrhoeic eczema) with background rosacea for 15 years. These 2 conditions often co-exist, and can be challenging to treat as certain treatments for eczema (such as topical steroids) can worsen rosacea, and rosacea treatments (such as azelaic acid) can dry the skin and aggravate eczema. Dr Salam created him a personalised skincare plan which targeted both the eczema and rosacea, alongside short-term tablet therapy.

This lady in her 20’s presented with a 2-month history of a widespread rash over her torso and legs after coming back from on holiday. She was treated for pityriasis lichenoides chronica (PLC) by Dr Salam with cream treatments and light therapy which led to complete resolution.
